COMMON QUESTIONS (AND ANSWERS)

Registration Issues

QUESTION: What is the new 3-Person SOLO TEAM division, and how to we register for it?
ANSWER: It is a brand-new competitive team category for SOLO riders only. Find 2 friends who are also riding in the SOLO division and sign yourselves up as a 3-person SOLO TEAM, either 3 male riders in the MEN'S division, or 3 female riders in the WOMEN'S division, or at least one of each gender in the MIXED division. There is NO ADVANCE REGISTRATION for this division. You just all enter as solo riders, pick a team name, and fill out the appropriate SOLO TEAM form at race
check-in either Friday or Saturday (until 8:00AM Saturday) of race weekend

QUESTION: I want to register my team for this year’s race, but I do not have all of my team members at this time. Can I still register?
ANSWER: Yes, enter as many names as you have so far, select the right team category, and pay the full team fee. You may add your additional riders at a later date.

QUESTION: Is it possible to change the make-up of the various teams before the race? How do I make the change? (More general than the question below)
ANSWER: Yes, you can add or substitute riders up to the last minute, provided your team entry has already been submitted and you paid the original entry fee. At this time, easiest thing to do is send an email to info@24hoursofallamuchy.com with the information you want to change. Please be sure to include your team’s name. If we have any questions, we will contact you.

QUESTION: I have registered a four-man team, but now would like to change the team to a five-person team. How do I make the change?
ANSWER: It is possible to change divisions. But if the division you change to requires additional or fewer riders, you will need to contact us directly. The easiest thing to do is send an email to info@24hoursofallamuchy.com. Include the name of the team and all of the information about the rider(s) you need to add or remove. If we have any questions, we will contact you.

QUESTION: I need to update my registration information. How do I make the change?
ANSWER: At this time, easiest thing to do is send an email to info@24hoursofallamuchy.com with the information you want to change. Please be sure to include your team’s name. If we have any questions, we will contact you.

QUESTION: Is there a registration cut off date or can I register on the day of the race?
ANSWER: The pre-entry process will be shut down a few days before race weekend. If our rider capacity is not yet reached, we may allow race-day registration. However, we strongly discourage it, as it severely bogs down race operations on race morning.

QUESTION: My daughter and her friends are experienced mountain bikers and would like to participate in this event, but are under 19 years of age. Do you have an age requirement?
ANSWER: No one under the age of 19 may participate in the SOLO division. Juniors (under age 19) MAY participate as members of teams in any other category, but only if a parent or legal guardian remains on site, at the event, in a supervisory capacity, throughout the duration of race weekend.

QUESTION: How do I register to become a volunteer?
ANSWER: Just send us an email with details of your background, level of interest, and time availability.

QUESTION: When and how will we receive confirmation that you received our online registration or paper registration?
ANSWER: If you register and pay online you will receive an email confirming that you have paid. If you register by mail, with paper forms and a check, you will not receive a confirmation that your entry and fee have been received.  If you have have any concerns about receipt of your entry and check by mail, please contact us at info@24hoursofallamuchy.com for confirmation.

QUESTION: When will you mail our race packets?
ANSWER: No race packets are mailed in advance of the event. All race packets, T-shirts, and Shwag are given out at Check-in on Friday and Saturday of race weekend.

QUESTION: Can we FAX our signed waiver forms?
ANSWER: No, we must have original signatures on all waiver forms.

Campsites & Cabins

QUESTION: I would like to register for a particular campsite or cabin. Do you take campsite or cabin registrations? What is the earliest you can claim a campsite or cabin?
ANSWERS:
CAMPSITES: We don not take advance registrations for campsites. Campsites are first-come, first-served, from 10:00AM Friday morning of race weekend. You may come as early as you like to line up for the registration on Friday morning, but registration will not open until 10:00AM. No one (other than event staff and sponsors) may enter the site prior to 10:00AM on Friday morning of race weekend.
CAMPSITES FOR SOLO RIDERS: Solo riders will have access to the campsites closest to the START/FINISH area reserved for them.
CABINS: There are a few cabins on the site. These are very rustic, with wooden bunks. They are of various sizes and have various different numbers of bunks per cabin. Some cabins are reserved for event staff and sponsors. Others are available for teams. Cabins may be reserved in advance by teams, but will be assigned only when the complete team entry forms and fees are received. Cabins must be shared among teams to fill all bunks.

QUESTION: Will solo riders be assigned campsites close to the transition area?
ANSWER: Yes, those campsites closest to the START/FINISH area will be reserved for solo riders.

QUESTION: Can we use a grill to cook at the site?
ANSWER: Yes you may, subject to possible last-minute safety restrictions (e.g., one recent year, due to draught conditions experienced during the summer, the State of New Jersey issued a ban on all open flame cooking in New Jersey forests, which was enforced at our event). This was the first time such a ban was issued, it was a safety situation beyond our control, and we are hopeful that such a ban will not be necessary again.

QUESTION: Can we bring our own generator to provide electric power?
ANSWER: No, generators and gasoline cans are prohibited on site.

QUESTION: Are their hot/cold showers available at the site?
ANSWER: Yes, there are separate MEN’S and WOMEN’S bath houses with hot showers.

Oversize Vehicles

QUESTION: My team has a camper or RV that we would like to bring to the site. Is there available parking and if so how far is the parking area from the Start/Finish area?
ANSWER: There is very limited parking on site for RV’s, caravans, and camper-vans. We can accommodate only 3 or 4 such vehicles. These spaces MUST BE RESERVED IN ADVANCE and are assigned on the basis of when full team registration forms and entry fees are received. Once these oversize vehicle spaces are reserved, any other such large vehicles MUST park off site at the remote parking facility and riders/crew must take the round-the-clock shuttle van back and forth to the site (or, ride you bikes!).
Spaces in this oversize-vehicle lot will NOT be assigned to cargo vans, mini-vans, or pickup-popup trucks—only to legitimately oversized vehicles.
The oversize-vehicle lot is about 1-mile (by mountain bike or foot) from the Start/Finish area.

The Course

QUESTION: I would like to pre-ride the course. Is there a course map, is course marked, and do I have accessibility to the site?
ANSWER: Most of the course is on private property for which we have permission ONLY on race weekend, from approximately NOON Friday through about 3:00PM Sunday afternoon. Pre-riding the course is not permitted until NOON Friday of race weekend. During race weekend the course is extremely well marked.

QUESTION: How would you rate the course--easy, hard, or challenging?
ANSWER: The 24 Hours of Allamuchy is varied and has a little bit of everything: flats, gradual and steep uphills and downhills, dirt, gravel, roots, rocks. Most of it is in the thick of the woods, with heavy foliage cover. Some portions of the course are quite challenging, but never for very long stretches. Expert riders have been delighted by our course, and novices have always been able to complete it, even if they have to dismount their bikes for some stretches.

Food & Beverage

QUESTION: Do you sell food, drink, and ice at the campsite?
ANSWER: YES! We have a very popular, round-the-clock restaurant in a dining hall only a few hundred yards from the START/FINISH/EXPO area. The menu will be posted on our website as we get closer to the event.
We do not sell ice. However, there are stores within 5 miles of the event site that sell ice.

QUESTION: How far is the closest grocery store to the race site?
ANSWER: Within 5 miles (see map on website).

Looking for a Rider or a Team?

QUESTION: If my team arrives after registration is over on Friday night, will we be allowed to enter the site without a problem?

ANSWER: The site will be closed. We ask that your team NOT try to enter the race site after the 7:30PM close of registration Friday evening. It is very important that we maintain our vehicle and campsite check-in system for each arriving team and vehicle. If you enter the event site, take a parking space, and select a campsite after hours on Friday, it will cause administrative problems for everyone, and you will most likely be required to move your vehicle(s) and your campsite on Saturday.
If your riders cannot get there before 7:30PM Friday, we recommend that at least one representative from your team arrive before that time to check in, register your vehicle(s), and make arrangements for later arrivals. Or—just wait until early Saturday morning to arrive. Registration/Check-in re-opens at 7:00AM Saturday.

General Questions

QUESTION: Is this a rain or shine event?
ANSWER: Yes, there is no rain date for this event.

QUESTION: When will we receive the logistical details of the event, directions, schedule, parking, etc?

ANSWER: These will all be posted on the website during the weeks preceding the event.

QUESTION: I am a rider in need of a team. Do you know of teams that need a replacement rider?
ANSWER: Check out our “FIND A TEAM” section of the website, where riders and teams can communicate with each other about hooking up.

QUESTION: We are a team in need of a rider. Is there a list of riders looking for a team?
ANSWER: Check out our “FIND A RIDER” section of the website, where riders and teams can communicate with each other about hooking up.

QUESTION: Is there a light rapid-charging station available at the campsite?
ANSWER: No.  We provide plenty of electrical power strips for your own chargers wherever there is an electrical course throughout the grounds.  These must all be shared.  However, we strongly recommend you plan to bring backup lights and charged backup batteries.
